Most of the pavement tiles from Chertsey Abbey Surrey were discovered in , even though the medieval building was demolished for building material. The glazed earthenware tiles from this floor mosaic had been removed from their original location and stored in a disorganized way in a garden. They remained there until Manwaring Schurlock took an interest in them. He attempted to reconstruct them and published a catalogue in Dating from the middle of the thirteenth century, they are now part of the British Museum collection. Amongst the tiles are roundels with historiated scenes based on the stories of Tristan and Richard the Lionheart. Two roundels, consisting of four quarter tiles, have been reassembled and identified as the battle between Richard the Lionheart and the Saracen Sultan Saladin.

Excellent service and relaxed surroundings. Enjoyed seafood spaghetti with afagato. Expected a little more from the food but was never the less satisfied. Great little independent Italian, that felt authentic, and reminded us of our visit to Rome a week prior. The cheesy mushrooms were a delicious appetiser that we shared to start.
The Proscuito Risotto was creamy, tasty and filling; and you could tell that the Quattro Stagioni Pizza was also fresh.

A small curry house with attentive staff. The food took a while to arrive but when it did it was obviously fresh and very tasty. Not really a romantic location as small with various other customers. We will certainly eat again but probably as a take away. By chance we stumbled across this restaurant, one of the local regulars was outside and we were advised that the restaurant was very good. He was not wrong,,, Service was very good we took the specials option which was very good value really tasty and full of flavour.
If you find yourself in Chertsey, fully recommend this restaurant. Nothing spectacular, but all the usual food you would expect. Service was very good, food bought quickly to the table. King prawn puree was lovely, nice bit of spice. All in all, a good indian. First time visiting. Dishes were full of flavour. Naan breads were perfect.

St Anns Lake, Chertsey: Address, St Anns Lake Review: 1/5
Although written evidence for Chertsey dates to the 7th century with the founding of Chertsey Abbey, archaeological remains show that the area was occupied long before that. Neolithic c. C flint axes have been discovered in the area as well as tools made from bone or antlers. Ann’s Hill has the remains of an Iron Age hill fort, although the terraces have largely been destroyed by subsequent agricultural activity, planting of trees and the introduction of roads and footpaths.
However, although we know there were early settlements locally, there is little other evidence of life in Chertsey until the arrival of Chertsey Abbey in AD.
